Regional Policy Forum for the Caribbean
25-26 January 2012
Barbados
The first regional consutation in the Caribbean has taken place during the ICT in Education Leadership Forum.
The Commonwealth of Learning and its partners brought together Permanent Secretaries and Senior ICT in Education Policy Leaders from across the Caribbean for the first ICT in Education Leadership Forum, from 25-26 January, 2012, in Barbados. To ensure the success and sustainability of the initiative, the partnership is multi-stakeholder and includes the Commonwealth Secretariat, Microsoft, and UNESCO.
The Forum focussed on the theme ‘Teachers’ Creativity and Innovation: a Key to Success in the Caribbean’, and explored how ICT has been integrated into teaching and learning. It specifically looked at how policies and practices need to respond to harness the potential of ICT in teacher development. Participants developed working solutions, with practical strategies on how governments and education systems can work together to deliver engaging, relevant and authentic education experiences through the use of ICT.
We also briefed countries on the UNESCO-COL joint project Fostering Governmental Support for Open Educational Resources Internationally, which is being conducted in the run-up to the World Congress on Open Educational Resources that will be held at UNESCO, Paris on June 20-22, 2012. Sir John Daniel, Project Director and Ms. Stamenka Uvalić-Trumbić, Principal Consultant were in attendance throughout the Forum and collected information from participants about policies concerning Open Educational Resources in countries of the Caribbean.
